Snoring Treatment (Sleep Apnea Surgery)
Apnea refers to the interruption of breath for more than 10 seconds during sleep. Up to 5 occurrences per night are considered normal, with anything beyond indicating a pathological condition. There are three different events in apnea, specifically classified as obstructive apneas falling within the scope of the ear, nose, and throat specialist.
If there is a sensation or occurrence of constriction or blockage anywhere from the nose to the vocal cords, it can result in obstructive sleep apnea. For this condition that occurs during sleep, it is essential to first determine the degree and cause of sleep apnea.
Diagnosis and Treatment of Sleep Apnea:
Sleep apnea can negatively impact patients in their social environments and may lead to more serious problems in the future. Among these potential problems are serious issues such as heart and vascular diseases and potentially fatal complications. Sleep apnea is initially confirmed through a sleep test. The test results determine the degree of apnea, and based on this degree, a treatment plan is devised. The location of the constriction is identified, and medically, CPAP is commonly used. However, if there is an obstructive cause, it needs to be addressed through surgical intervention.
